Lee Jones – A Perfect Kick

Lee Jones has always been a creative artist, and this new EP is no exeption. The slow moving title track ‘A Perfect Kick’ is smooth and mellow, with the songs getting deeper and heavier as the EP moves forward. I thought the descripti0n from the Watergates ‘Perfect Kick’ soundcloud page would provide a nice indication of the direction of the album.

Soundcloud Description

Almost three years have passed since the Watergate resident Lee Jones was active on our own Label. As much more, we are pleased to devote the twelfth catalogue number to him. “A Perfect Kick” describes the end of a long, but successful search. A search which finds its expression in four versions.

The original starts with swirling scapes, which are cut into a rhythm by smoothly rattling hi-hats. A dreamful melody floats, detached from the beat, through the dense and summery atmosphere. Soft synths are winding again and again through the composition and carry away every thought, except the sunrise in the head. In the middle, the track finally reveals its incomparable old-school nature: A glimmer of 80s, a mellow voice, a chuckle on the dancefloor – carried away by the light-footed beat.

To offer a remix for his own track shows that Lee Jones is a producer, who is not afraid to take a different perspective on his music. The “Lee Jones Remix” rolls faster and has a darker atmosphere than the original. After a heavy break, the track evolves into a driving stomper, which gets increasingly trippy.

Matthias Meyers interpretation reminds of the electronic music of the 90s, when a track took up time to unfold its full impact. Daria produced a contemporary and a very deep dub-version. “A Perfect Kick” appears on July 22nd on vinyl and digital.

Anyway heres the 12.00 minute soundcloud mix.

My favorite version is definitely Darias versian. However they are all of really high quality, and if you do like any of the house music do go out a support and get the vinyl!
